The Brewhouse at Burgundys, Lowther Street, Kendal
1 November 2016 to 21 January 2017
A solo exhibition from Ray Green, inspired by his experiences of the “Wild Places”.
“On adventure-journeys in the Lake District, Scotland, France, Slovenia, I seek the hidden authentic faces of their unique wildness. I work at the heart of these wild-places, walking or canoeing in with my art materials in all seasons, risking hypothermia for my art. These paintings attempt to share these hidden and beautiful places; without the heat, cold and wet, the dangers and midges.”
“I was first drawn to the wild places years ago, and escaped from ‘down south’ by moving to Kendal. Over the years I was lucky to build up the skills to be able to journey into and live in the wild places; first as a Mountain Leader with Cumbria Scout Association, and then with Kendal Mountain Rescue Team and then a canoeist with good friends.”
“At first this was because I simply enjoyed the challenge, adventure and risk. But as a result of these journeys I discovered that on or near deep rivers or old mountains, there is a wild-stillness, energy and savage beauty which I need to paint. On this Walk in the Wild I hope you can journey with me into wild, savage and beautiful places.”
The Brewhouse at Burgundy’s is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10.30-5.00 pm.
