My work has been inspired by my travels round the world and the cities, landscapes and gardens that I have visited. My own garden has been a labour of love for the past 20 years and a great source of inspiration for my painting.
I paint in watercolour and mixed media and many of my paintings are reproduced as limited edition giclee prints and greeting cards. My work is regularly exhibited throughout the North West of England and my greeting cards are for sale in the Whitworth Art Gallery and the Bridgewater Concert Hall in Manchester.
Lately my work has been inspired by the hills and dales of Cheshire, Derbyshire and Cumbria. I am fascinated by the patterns, shapes and repetition to be found in the natural world and I love to work outside capturing the changing moods, colour and light in these dramatic landscapes. I have recently moved into a newly restored mill at Farfield Mill and now work from my workshop there. This is set in the middle of magnificent countryside with an endless source of inspiration just outside the door.
I studied Printed Textiles at Manchester Polytechnic (now Manchester Metropolitan University) and after leaving college I worked as a freelance designer selling to major companies such as Liberty and Heals. I also worked extensively in the greeting card industry.
I was a lecturer in Art and Design for many years teaching at HND and Degree level and ended my teaching career as Head of the Arts, Design, and Media Department at Stockport College. In 2007 I left education to concentrate entirely on my painting.
I have exhibited in London, Manchester, Amsterdam and New York. My work is regularly on show throughout galleries in the North West of England.
I am secretary of the Friends of the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester.
