My abstract artwork is an amalgamation of expressive feeling alongside the precision balance of both simple and complex shapes. First, each background is thought out and painted with pure gut expression, rarely stopping to pause and think. Next, I superglue the children’s building bricks with precise intentions over their shape, colour and placement, creating intuitive balance alongside the more expressive background. The final phase is to paint shapes alongside and on top of the bricks – more complex shapes, though just as intuitive as the placement of the coloured bricks. These final shapes are very much repeated in each piece of Blok Abstract, creating a certain iconography and style. I attribute much of my abilities in balancing simple and complex shapes to my experiences of paranoid schizophrenia as well as there being underlying mathematical reasons for their intuitive creation.
Blok Abstract is for the adult as well as for children and those with learning disabilities. Hopefully inspiring a sense of colour, play, nostalgia and creativity in an abundance of originality and beauty. I thoroughly enjoy creating each piece, and hope to continue for a long time to come.
