I am a ceramic sculptor making work to fit into a domestic setting. I trained under Brian Starkey at Sutton College Of Liberal Arts and have subsequently exhibited widely in galleries in the United Kingdom. I also sell from my studio and through ceramic shows in UK, Germany, Netherlands and France.
My inspirations are eclectic and include the jigsaw form, architecture, abstract sculpture, and furniture. I roll out clay into slabs, cut and assemble them, model, then add pattern and texture. Some work is fired to stoneware temperature in a wood-fired kiln for the ‘warm’ finish caused by the fly ash. For other pieces I use the ‘raku’ firing technique – low temperature, removal red hot, then placed in combustible material to blacken unglazed areas. Pieces may be on wooden or slate plinths and incorporate wire, textile or other materials. Recently I have been producing tiles for use as coasters and larger ones and assemblages as wall hangings. I also use high fired terracotta clay for sculptures and planters.
