It is not only the pleasure of making that is important to me; it is having the means at my disposal to communicate to the viewer the thinking behind my sculptures.
After studying fine art at Lancaster university, I made the decision to specialize in sculpture because it enabled me to be so much more expressive. Clay has become my main material of choice as it is so malleable, good juxtaposition between solidity and fragility.
I am currently combining traditional finishes and techniques with unusual appendages eg. modern taps fixed to the top of old water jugs. Variation in scale is another tool that I have been using with a series on enormous ‘seed heads’.
