I am a painter, mixed media artist and printmaker with long-standing interests in landscape, geology and the environment that are reflected in my work.
Collage has become central to my practice. I start with recognisable images- usually contained in the pages of daily newspapers- and progressively disrupt, fragment and conceal them. The result has the appearance of abstract art but close inspection of the picture surface reveals something else. What is abstract at a macro-level consists of a multiplicity of barely visible images and part-images at a micro-level.
I see the actions that produce my work as akin to the processes that shape life, from peaceful additions to sudden discontinuities and traumatic ruptures. As the balance of these elements changes so too does the character of the work.
