My silk and Brusho dye work is mainly inspired by the beautiful landscape of the Arnside and Silverdale area. It comes from an imaginative recollection of the textures, light and feelings I have experienced, rather than true life. I have a special love for trees and the light that plays through them, their knobbly trunks, twisted roots and the distant vistas to be glimpsed through them. The nature of each picture develops as I work on them and I encorage the Brusho dye marks to create a narative.

I developed my unique technique of winkled fabric to enhance the textural qualities of the landscape that inspires me. First treated wet fabric is sculpted onto a board. Powdered Brusho dye crystals are then applied to create unique textures and colour markings. I love the random effects they create, making each of my pictures completely individual.

I also create lino prints on textile which are further enhanced using Brusho dye. The effects caused by the vibrant colours migrating through the textile fabric never cease to amaze me.
