As a silk painter I continue to be fascinated by the way vibrant dyes flow through silk, and the lustre and depth of colour revealed after steam-fixing.
Directing the flow with hot wax resist is always a challenge, giving pictures that are fresh and unique each time.
Recently I have been exploring tree forms inspired by Japanese and Chinese traditional landscape painting, but in my own style.
This uses a very different technique of first painting a resist through the silk, then slow, patient work with a fine brush and black dye.
Inspiration for my work comes from the hedgerows and landscapes of Cumbria and other wild places.
