Maddy is a textile artist whose work explores textile techniques, such as felting, hand and machine embroidery and deconstructing fabrics and yarns to produce new textured surfaces.

“I have always been interested in colour, fabric and yarn since being taught to knit and sew as a child,” said Maddy. “Since childhood I have pursued hobbies using fabric and yarns, developing textile techniques through workshops and books for my own amusement.”

“Completing a City & Guilds qualification in Creative Studies, 20 years ago, encouraged me to create my own three-dimensional embroidered pieces and then joining the Cumbrian group Six Five Felters introduced me to felting and, in particular, needle felting which features in much of my artwork.”

“Moving to Cumbria in 2006 opened up a greater wealth of source material, captured by my digital camera, which I enjoy portraying in felt and free-style embroidery.  My hobbies of walking, birdwatching and photography provide an abundance of source material.”
